Beefsteak to Benefit GRFD and GRVAC

Friday, August 14, 2015  On Saturday September 26th at 6PM, the Ethan Allen Chapter, DeMolay Leaders of Bergen County and Fidelity Lodge #113 F&AM is hosting a beefsteak dinner. Proceeds from such dinner will benefit the GRFD and the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The dinner will be held at Fidelity Lodge #113 located at 99 S. Maple Ave. in Ridgewood, NJ. Donations are $40 and reservations are required. No tickets will be sold at the door. Deadline for reservations is September 19th. Please contact for reservation information. GRFD Conducts Ladder Ops Drill

Thursday, August 13, 2015 19:30 The GRFD conducted a drill to review the operations of Ladder 832.   In particular, the drill covered setting the truck up for a "boom evolution" and safe operation of the platform.   All tools and systems involved in the operation were discussed as well as responsibilities of members in conducting such an evolution.   The GRFD conducts drills on the second and fourth thursday of each month in order to keep its skills sharp.  



GRFD Provides Mutual Aid to Fair Lawn

Friday, August 7, 2015 15:53 The GRFD responded to the scene of a working fire at 41-77 Rys Terrace.  The fire started outdoors between two structures and ended up with both structures involved.   A crew from Ladder 832 (Capt. Aguilar) assisted Fair Lawn with opening up walls and ceilings in the second floor bedroom, bathroom and upstairs hallway.   Chief Jennings (830) and Assistant Chief Zanotti (840) were also on scene assisting with direction of fire supression efforts.  No additional fire extension was discovered.  The fire ultimately went to three alarms bringing Elmwood Park and Saddle Brook to the scene as well.   Additional departments provided standby coverage for Fair Lawn.

GRFD Attends Paramus Triple Wetdown

Sunday, June 7, 2015 13:00 GRFD Engine 833 helped Paramus Company 4 celebrate a wetdown of three new apparatus.  FFs Sexton and Pimlott demonstrated a mastery of handling 833's booster line during the festivities.  The wet down was well attended with participation from Fair Lawn, Washington Township, East Rutherford, Rochelle Park, Elmwood Park, Ramsey, Allendale and many other fire departments.  Great food and music rounded out the afternoon.   Thanks to Company 4 for being great hosts!      



GRFD Responds to Call at 930 Prospect Street

Sunday, June 7, 2015 12:53 The GRFD responded to a call of an odor of burning at 930 Prospect Street.  On arrival, Asst. Chief Zannotti (840) established command and directed Engine 831 (Capt. Aguilar) to the roof of the structure to assess the HVAC units.  Ladder 832 (Lt. Sellitti) assisted with controlling utilities and provided additional manpower support on the roof.  Engine 833 (FF Lemieux) stood by at the hydrant on Prospect Street in the event a water supply was required.  The odor was isolated to the HVAC unit and the building representative was advised to have the unit serviced.



Congrats to Junior FF Sasek on Eagle Scout!

Saturday, May 30, 2015 13:00 Congratulations to Junior Firefighter Kevin Sasek on attaining the rank of Eagle Scout!   Only 4% of all Boy Scouts manage to make it all the way to Eagle Scout.   Kevin's Eagle Scout project involved painting house numbers on curbs on select streets in the borough.   This makes it easier for first responders to quickly identify the home in which an emergency is occurring.  Great job, Kevin!



FF Pimlott Presents on Fire Safety

Wednesday, May 27, 2015 19:30 FF Thomas Pimlott IV gave a presentation on fire safety at tonight's borough council meeting.  FF Pimlott, a fire safety professional, discussed all aspects of home fire safety,   His discussion touched on topics such as smoke detecors, carbon monoxide and home escape plans.   The presentation was well received by all in attendance and watched on GRTV by even more.   Well done FF Pimlott!



GRFD Participated in Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 25, 2015 10:00 In an annual tradition, the GRFD participated in the borough's Memorial Day Parade.  GRFD Members in their "Class A" uniforms marched along Rock Rd to Borough Hall in honor of those who have served and lost their lives.  Special thanks to the VFW for organizing the parade and being great hosts! 



GRFD Runs "Playground" Drill

Thursday, May 14, 2015 19:30 The GRFD ran a drill at the Wilde Park playground.   The drill was intended to simulate the rescue of a downed firefighter at the end of a hose line.  The hose was stretched thourghout the playground equipment and FF's, under limited visibility conditions, followed the hose to the end.  The drill also incorpoated use of MAYDAY calls and air management skills for all participants.  Thanks to the borough council and Director of Parks and Recreation Barone for use of the playground facility!



GRFD Members Continued Training at FDIC

Tuesday, April 21, 2015 06:30 GRFD Officers Mike Aguilar, Pete Flannery, William Burbano and Kevin Sellitti continued their hands on as well as classroom training today at the FDIC.   Hands on training included effective hose line stretching, aerial operatons, forcible entry and vent/enter/isolate/search techniques.   Classroom training included discussions of strategy and tactics for residential house fires.   All training continues to be top notch and the GRFD members continue to learn a wealth of information that can be passed back to the rest of the Department.   Tomorrow will be all classroom training -- which will be a welcome break for the members who have been out on the fireground the past 2 days!
